Club Archery at San José State University attended the annual Golden Bear Open at the archery range on the UC Berkeley campus on Saturday, October 29th. Â San Jose State Club Archery was able to bring five archers to the event, Albert Bernas, Christopher Plumeau, Sherlene Hung, Ethan Clark and Johann Grayson. Â Sherlene, Johann, and Ethan were relatively new to archery, only practicing archery for no more than a couple of years. The shoot had around 100 shooters competing and were separated into their respective age groups and bow style classes. The targets were placed 18 meters away shooting two iterations of 10 rounds of 3 arrow ends for a grand total of 60 arrows.
The scoring for archery starts with a target in which a set of 10 concentric circles are arranged such that their diameters are larger than the next. Â The maximum score is 10 points starting from the center circle and decrements by one as you progress towards the outer rings of the circle.
Overall, the team did well with all shooters placing high at the shoot: Sherlene Hung with 1st place, Christopher Plumeau with 1st place, Albert Bernas with 2nd place, Ethan Clark with 1st place, and Johann Grayson with 1st place. Â It was a great experience for the new archers especially as they were able to develop their skills and to gain more experience in the sport of archery. Â Club Archery strives to provide its archers with the best opportunities possible to learn, grow, shoot, and compete, and hopes to expand the club, and spread the sport of archery to all of San José State.
Club Archery at San José State will be competing at the State Archers of California State Indoor Championships in Tulare, California in January 2017.
