MLAX vs Biola 2013

Spartans v. Eagles (11-5 W)

2/22/2013 12:00:00 PM

The San Jose State Spartans drove down to Southern California this past weekend to play multiple games against the Biola University Eagles (SLC D2 North) and Cal State San Marcos Cougars (SLC D2 South). Every coach and player knew that they had two challenging games ahead of them, but went into the games with the utmost confidence.

The first game of the weekend would be played on a beautiful multipurpose field on top of a parking structure at Biola University, where team cheers could be heard echoing throughout the surrounding parking structure. Nearly no time is wasted, as the high intensity, high action sport comes to life with goals from the Spartans being answered by goals from the Eagles. By the end of the first quarter, both teams are tied at two-two, with a long way to go. The Eagles score an additional two goals during the 2nd quarter, but the Spartans Offense begins to shine, responding to the Eagles by doubling their score, leading 8-4 by the end of the half. The third period would be the final period where goals are made by either teams, with the Spartans scoring 3 while the Eagles scored 1. In the final quarter, the Eagles' offense goes to town, shooting shots after shots on cage, but ultimately the Spartans Defense prevails, stopping every single shot attempt. Team Captain and Goalie John Rowney would earn the game's MVP ball due to his ability to stop the barrage of shots from the Eagles during the final minutes of the game. After both teams line up to shake hands, Biola invites the Spartans into the middle of their field for a moment of prayer, with the invitation being gladly accepted by the players of San Jose State. When asked about the experience, many players reported that they had never done anything like that before, but would love to do it again, as it was an extremly humbling experience and a great display of comradery.

The Spartans of San Jose State would like to thank the Eagles of Biola University for having us, and we wish you the best of luck with the rest of your season. We look forward to future scrimmages with Biola, and welcome you to San Jose at anytime.
